I’ve been seeing all these posts on social media about everyone’s kids going back to school (side note: some of which are kids of people MY age which makes me feel basically ancient) this week and it made me ready for my ‘Back To School’ wardrobe.
Is that still a thing? If you’re an adult and have been out of school for a solid 5 years?
If it’s not a thing, let’s make it one (if for no one else but yourself).
I love the change of seasons (although I’m desperately holding on to the last month of summer in Holland) and a reason to refresh your style.
How you can refresh your style seasonally:
Start taking notice of the big trends coming up for the next season and do your research. If you’re on a budget, it’s important to invest in pieces you can wear for months (or even years) to come. So what if you’re not into High Fashion? Taking notice of upcoming trends could be as simple as watching The Today Show and seeing what the hosts are wearing on a daily basis. Trend watching for you could be walking into Anthropologie’s store to get a feel for the new collection.
Make a Pinboard on Pinterest. My sister and I make a collaborative board every season. This helps us narrow down what we really ‘need’ and gives us an extra opportunity to communicate half way across the world.
TRY STUFF ON
Not sure if ruffles are for you? Take the time to visit a few stores and see if they’re ‘your thing’. There’s nothing worse than forcing yourself to jump on board with a trend that just doesn’t feel like you. Personal style should be comfortable and most importantly, an extension of you.
Once you’ve gotten inspired, put together your look and feel confident – it’s time to buy! There’s no better feeling than walking out of a store with new pieces that you absolutely love and that give you an extra spring in your step. Shopping shouldn’t be stressful, it should be FUN!!
